History

I get a lot of Throwback Thursday posts on Facebook so I thought on Thursdays we would explore history.

I like history – probably because my Dad centered so many of our family vacations around historical places when I was growing up.  We visited US historical sites like Gettysburg and Williamsburg, but we also went to off the beaten path places like the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore, OK.   I love visiting museums and looking back to see how we got to where we are now.  So when I saw the PSA about Women’t History Month on the local news this morning, it got me wondering.

Women’s History month originated in 1981 when Congress passed an act prompting Women’s History week.  Since 1995, our Presidents have issued annual proclamations declaring March Women’s History Month.   Right now,  the Library of Congress, the National Archives, the National Gallery, the National Park Service, the Smithsonian Museum and more are featuring exhibits and celebrating the role of Women in American History.
